My main worry is for storing large video files such as full DVD's or uncompressed video from fraps. It's a small enough problem not to concern me for the moment but i'll have to see when i get linux installed on the other HD over the next few days.

Fat32 is a good format to go with. You shouldn't be too concerned about the file limit. The limit only applies to how big a single file can be, but the actual partition can be as large as you want.
But if your still concerned (that must be one long song...) I believe that Ext3 has a limit of 8GB.

Or you can wait and adopt Ext4 ;)

Hey darius, nice post, despite its gargantuan-ness.
As for File system. NTFS > FAT32, it's just that linux is inferior :P Seriously though, if you've done your revision properly for these exams you'll know that FAT32 sucks. Bigger table with more space used etc.

"465GB out of the 500" it's sad i know why that is.

Good luck with the swap over.
