So as you may have noticed i’ve installed Wordpress 2.7, which has a new look admin panel. It’s pretty awesome and very easy to use, they’ve defiantly catered to all screen sizes which is nice as i write this on my eee pc 1000h. Some general observations I’ve made are :-
- The sidebar is retractable, this was a great addition to any netbook users as it simple free’s up much needed space. Not only is it retractable but it is still very useable in this state, the wordpress team have provided us with hover over menus, so there is no need to keep opening and closing menu’s to use the many options.
- “Screen Options” – i wouldn’t personally have called it that because its not really Options more just what you want parts of the UI you want to hide, but again another great feature making Wordpress more personal.
- Everything is dragable, when you first install this new version of wordpress you’re looking at a 3 column display. Which agian on a netbook isn’t ideal however you can drag them down so its only a two column display (I’m counting the menu bar as one). These draggable windows then resize themselves to make full use off the screen.
- No hassle plugin installation – just click install and its installed (i hope to see this for themes in 2.8).
- No more manual upgrades – auto installation of that too, even downloads them
Moving on. I’ve recently installed crunchbang eee linux on my eee pc 1000h as the only operating system, this distrabution recently released an eee distrabution (thats right, i don’t just like saying eee). Anyone familiar with eee pc models will know that the 1000h comes with windows xp and isn’t to be confused with the 1000 which has linux and a SSD. The 1000h has a 80gb hard disk, my decisions on wahy i didn’t want an SSD where simple. I don’t want to have to worry about the number of writes i’m doing to my hard disk. Back to #! eee, it came with eeepc-lean kernel from array.org and everything apart from the volume keys have worked straight away. #! makes use of openbox which is very lightweight and perfect for the eee however the only way i feel let down by it is that some of the windows are still to long to fit my eee’s screen properly and sometimes require me to plug into one of my extra screens to do some configurations.
Finally I suppose I should talk about whats going on in my degree as this is kind of a record of that. I completed my scheme coursework yesterday and I’m currently hacking some classes for an abstract synatax tree to use in my compiler coursework. The deadline is getting kind of close and I’m only just starting to understand what i’m doing :s, therefore i best get back to work haha.
